The Big Switch Off

The Big Switch Off is a Leicestershire County wide campaign that encourages households, businesses, schools and community organisations to switch off all electrical appliances that are currently on standby.

This year POS Direct are encouraging all our employees to switch off all unnecessary electrical equipment both at home and at work between 4.30pm - 6.30pm on Friday, October 17th. Hopefully contributing and see how much of an impact we can make in saving our energy.

Currently, UK Wide, we are currently wasting £740 million worth of energy a year by leaving appliances on standby? There is a massive potential to improve business wide at POS Direct to help lower the waste and improve on lowering our Co2 gases further.

Why Switch Off?

Whether you are motivated for environmental or financial reasons switching off standby makes sense. If each householder in the county switched off standby every year we could save on average £13,186,541!

This is equal to 21,315 tonnes of carbon, which could fill 444,352 double decker buses!

So lets help the environment and make sure we all take part of The Big Switch Off.

What Will POS Direct Do?

We have pledged to make sure all equipment that is on stand-by is turned off through all our 6 facilities. We will also be providing our staff with information packs and 2 free energy-saving light bulbs, promoting energy efficiency within the home.
