IT in Fulfilment and Distribution
Fulfilment can have multiple definitions for many businesses but for POS Direct it means Account Management, Order Processing, Pick & Pack and Collation - we pride ourselves on taking the lead on the fulfilment front for POS and POP material throughout the UK. POS Direct has provided many blue chip companies with the support in fulfilment for delivering their marketing collateral to build that much important brand awareness.
During the past 17 years of business, POS Direct have heavily invested in technology - helping to further support our clients in their fulfilment and distribution needs. The company originally utilised Microsoft office products straight out of the box and four basic computers sourced from PC World. The database, simple in nature, would track the bare minimum of data needed to store and deliver POS & POP material. Information was manually entered and all communication took place in the traditional sense - telephone, fax and the post.
POS Direct currently stands on a solid infrastructure built of dedicated lines, numerous servers with multiple failure points and a user base built on a HP Business PC systems. The IT department hosts a complete development environment which helps in testing our web application integration into our clients infrastructures, be it on a Microsoft or Linux platform. POS Direct have invested heavily in a disaster recovery plan, providing our clients a complete recovery within 2hrs of notification.
Client's fulfilment requirements often follow a tight schedule, due to marketing of a new product - or simply seasonal activity, so visibility of all materials throughout the business is paramount. POS Direct takes pride in providing flexibility in their POS Live system, utilising SQL to help build intensive fulfilment web applications to provide full control and visibility for an annual count of over 50,000 different SKU’S and in excess of 20 million items.
To utilise space and afford high efficiency, each account is mapped through our fulfilment systems and will provide the best possible pick and pack routes. Each allocation is visible through our web application, allowing for our clients to maximise on their allocated space.
Information is the key driver in any business, POS Direct provides our blue chip clients not only with the standard KPI reports on our distribution services - but also provide customised KPI's to their requirements. POS Direct thrives on our ability to be flexible and adaptable to our clients needs - highlighting the simple fact that any data held can be converted into valuable information presented in any given format.
Integration is our key into providing fantastic IT within the fulfilment sector, our technology allows POS Direct to be a valuable element of our client's structure, yet appear completely invisible - giving the appearance and the service of an in-house solution. Again, rather than enforcing our methodology onto our clients, we encourage our clients to provide their system structure for POS Direct to gel into.
Our integration into the distribution network also provides major benefits to our clients, providing invaluable live information on the delivery status on their products and POS, such as track and trace and pulling through signatures and other relevant information and presents them effectively through our web application created for our client. XML, the technology behind our data integration is perhaps at large, the biggest factor in allowing POS Direct to be the most flexible amongst our fulfilment house peers.
For many clients, online ordering is a priority - allowing for faster turnarounds and an awareness of the POS available, but most importantly the online ordering system streamlines the process of ordering POS. Rather than just providing the restrictive traditional methods such as telephone and postal orders, the online fulfilment ordering system is available 24 hours of the day, so ordering can take place when the clients user base is able to do so, rather than just within the generic office hours.
